Three nested rooms labelled UAE region, access rules and your data; questions enter only through the doors on the left and reach the assistant (orange square) beside the company's data, beside the words private ChatGPT.

Your staff already paste contracts, price lists and policies into ChatGPT, and your IT or compliance head wants to know where that data goes. A private ChatGPT for your company in the UAE settles both: people keep the tool they like, the answers come from your own documents, and you decide who sees what and where the data is kept.

What does a private ChatGPT for a company in the UAE mean?

Quick answer: One of three setups. ChatGPT Business gives your team a managed workspace whose data isn’t used for training. ChatGPT Enterprise adds stronger admin controls and, for new workspaces, can store data and run the AI in the UAE, with limits. Your own assistant answers from your documents and systems, with per-person access, running where you agree.

What unmanaged use costs you

When staff use their own accounts for work, company documents leave on terms nobody in the company agreed to. Nobody can see what was shared, answers can’t be traced to a source, and the same question gets a different answer in each chat. A ban rarely holds; people move to their phones. Meanwhile, the questions that need your own documents, such as “what does our contract with this supplier say about penalties?”, still go to the one person who knows.

Where the data goes: UAE options as of 24 Oct 2026

These facts change often, so read the vendors’ pages line by line. This is what they said on 24 Oct 2026.

ChatGPT Enterprise. OpenAI’s help article lists the UAE for data residency, meaning conversations, files and custom GPTs are stored at rest in the UAE, and for inference residency, meaning the AI model runs on GPUs in the UAE (OpenAI Help Center). Residency comes at no extra cost on Enterprise, with four limits a buyer should know:

  • It is offered to new Enterprise and Edu workspaces. ChatGPT Business, the plan formerly called Team, is not on the list.
  • Steps outside the AI model can still run elsewhere, including extracting text from uploaded PDF and Word files, routing and sign-in.
  • Anything sent through apps and other integrations, such as web search, follows that provider’s terms, not your UAE setting.
  • With UAE inference residency, some features are off, including image generation, and only the models OpenAI lists for the UAE are available.

One conflict to note: OpenAI’s business-data page still lists in-region inference for the US and Europe only, while the help article, updated this week, adds the UAE. Ask OpenAI to confirm the region in your order form.

OpenAI API. OpenAI’s API documentation, linked from the same article, lists a UAE region that stores and processes requests in the UAE, for a short list of models that doesn’t include the newest ones. The UAE region needs extra approval from OpenAI, and regional endpoints cost 10% more for models released since March 2026.

Azure OpenAI. Microsoft says stored data stays in the Azure geography you choose, but where each question is processed depends on the deployment type (Microsoft Learn). “Global” deployments can be processed in any Azure region where the model runs. For UAE North, Microsoft’s tables list only embedding and speech-to-text models as pay-per-use regional deployments; chat models processed in the region come on reserved (provisioned) capacity, billed for the capacity rather than per question. Answers on Microsoft’s own Q&A forum contradict each other on this, so get the processing location for your deployment in writing.

Five questions that decide it

  1. Where do the answers live? If staff mostly draft, summarise and translate, a ChatGPT plan covers it. If they need answers from your policies, contracts and ERP records, the assistant has to reach those sources.
  2. Must each person see only their own documents? A shared workspace suits material the whole team may read. HR files, salaries and board papers need each answer limited to what the person asking may open in the source system.
  3. What must stay in the UAE? Ask your IT or compliance head which data may leave the country, then read each option above against that answer, limits included.
  4. How much Arabic, and whose? Test every option on your own questions: Gulf dialect, mixed Arabic and English, scanned circulars. Our guide to an Arabic AI chatbot for company documents has a test set you can use.
  5. Who will run it? A ChatGPT plan needs an admin. Your own assistant also needs an owner for the documents and someone to fix the cause of a wrong answer.

ChatGPT Business, Enterprise or your own assistant

Take this table to the meeting where the decision is made. Most companies find one column fits their documents and their rules.

What you need ChatGPT Business ChatGPT Enterprise Your own assistant
Suits Drafting, summaries and research for a team The same across a large company, with central control Answers from your documents and systems, for staff or customers
Training on your data Not by default Not by default Not by default on the business APIs; the model is agreed with you
Your documents Files users upload, custom GPTs, apps for some workplace tools The same Connected where they live, kept current, every answer citing its source
Who sees what Member, admin and owner roles; single sign-on Adds custom roles by group and automatic user set-up (SCIM) Each answer limited to what the person asking may open
Data in the UAE Not on OpenAI’s residency list Stored and processed in the UAE for new workspaces, with the limits above Where you agree: OpenAI’s UAE region, Azure UAE North or your own cloud account, within each vendor’s limits
Arabic Reads and writes Arabic; untested on your documents The same Tested on your questions before launch
ERP and CRM Through apps, where one exists Through apps, where one exists Through each system’s API, with its own read-only account
Cost model A monthly fee per user Agreed with OpenAI’s sales team A build, then AI usage and hosting

How to read it: many companies need two columns, not one. Seats for everyday writing, and their own assistant for the questions that depend on company documents and access rules.

What drives the cost of your own assistant

  • How many sources. One shared drive is one connection. SharePoint, a document system and your ERP are three, each with its own access rules to carry over.
  • The state of the documents. Current text files are quick. Scans, stamped letters and three versions of every policy need work first.
  • Languages. Arabic and English, dialect and mixed questions mean a larger test set and more rounds of fixing.
  • Where it runs. Pay-per-use in a global region costs least. Processing in the UAE can mean a regional surcharge or reserved capacity, as set out above.
  • Volume. AI usage is billed by the question and by how much text each answer reads. A monthly spending cap with an alert keeps it in view.

How we build a private assistant

We have built AI chatbots and assistants that answer from company documents. Through our AI agent development in Dubai work, where the assistant runs is a decision we agree with you before the build: which AI model, which cloud and region, or your own cloud account, checked against the vendor facts above on the day you sign.

Two of the ways we work matter most here:

  • CTO oversight. Every project is supervised by senior technical leadership, so a CTO-level lead signs off the model, the region and the access design before any document is loaded.
  • Custom development. Built around your business’s requirements: your sources, your access rules and your Arabic, not a vendor’s defaults.

If a ChatGPT plan already covers what you need, we’ll say so. Our guide to ChatGPT for business in the UAE shows where a plan is enough and where work moves into your systems.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does OpenAI train its models on our company's data?

Not by default. OpenAI says it does not use data from ChatGPT Business, ChatGPT Enterprise or its API to train its models unless you opt in, and Microsoft says the same of Azure OpenAI. Personal accounts have their own settings, which is why moving staff to a business plan is the first step towards a private ChatGPT.

Can ChatGPT Enterprise keep our data in the UAE?

As of 24 Oct 2026, yes, for eligible new Enterprise workspaces: conversations, files and custom GPTs stored in the UAE, and the AI model running on GPUs in the UAE. Some steps can still happen elsewhere, such as reading the text out of uploaded files, sign-in and anything sent to connected apps. Ask OpenAI to confirm the region in your order form.

What does our own assistant cost compared with ChatGPT seats?

Seats are a monthly fee per user. Your own assistant has a build cost, for connecting your sources, setting access rules and testing, and a running cost for AI usage and hosting. Our price is agreed in your proposal once we have seen your documents and questions, and a monthly spending cap with an alert keeps usage predictable.

Can we start with ChatGPT and build our own assistant later?

Yes, and many companies should. Put staff on a business plan for drafting and research, note the questions they keep asking about your own documents, and use those as the test set if you build. The plan stays for everyday writing; the assistant takes the questions that need your documents and access rules.

Who owns the assistant we build?

You do. The code passes to you at the end of the project, once it is completed and paid, and the cloud and AI accounts can be in your company's name from the start. We sign an NDA first if you want one.
