Two stacks of module blocks for Odoo and SAP B1, the VAT block lit in each and wired to an orange square ticked FIT between them, beside the words Odoo vs SAP B1.

Odoo vs SAP Business One in the UAE is a choice most growing trading and manufacturing companies face once stock, a second legal entity or the 2027 e-invoicing rules ask more than their first accounting system can give. Both products run UAE VAT, Arabic documents, several warehouses and production orders. What separates them is how each one is bought, extended and supported, and that shows in your costs, and in your freedom to change, for years after go-live.

Odoo vs SAP Business One in the UAE: which one fits?

Quick answer: Both cover UAE VAT, Arabic, multi-warehouse stock and production. SAP Business One fits a company whose group runs SAP, or that wants a fixed SAP standard kept by one partner. Odoo fits a company that wants published per-user prices, several companies in one database, and apps beyond finance and operations, such as e-commerce, point of sale and WPS payroll.

Comparing the two now? Tell us how your stock and production run, and we’ll say where Odoo fits and where it doesn’t.

What a late decision costs you

The e-invoicing dates don’t move with your ERP project. Businesses with revenue of AED 50 million or more appoint an accredited service provider (ASP) by 30 October 2026 and go live on 1 January 2027; smaller ones appoint by 31 March 2027 and go live on 1 July 2027, as our UAE e-invoicing 2027 guide sets out. Settle the ERP first and you connect it to your provider once. Connect the old system first and you build and test the same invoice flow twice.

How they compare for a UAE business

Checked on SAP’s and Odoo’s own pages on 27 October 2026. Where a fact depends on your SAP partner, the table says so.

UAE tax, e-invoicing and Arabic: what to check

  • VAT. On Business One, your partner sets up SAP’s UAE country version. Odoo’s UAE localisation brings a 5% tax for each emirate and the VAT201 report for EmaraTax, as our Odoo VAT and Corporate Tax setup guide shows.
  • Corporate Tax comes from your ledger in both, so keep exempt income, disallowed expenses and allowable deductions in separate accounts. Odoo’s report reads the accounts you tag; on Business One, ask what the UAE version reports.
  • E-invoicing. SAP Middle East & North Africa LLC is on the Ministry of Finance list of accredited providers; ask how your Business One version reaches it, or another ASP, and whether that route has been tested. Odoo isn’t on the list and connects to the provider you choose, as our Odoo ASP integration guide explains.
  • Arabic. Business One runs in 28 interface languages and 50 country versions (SAP Learning), and SAP’s own material lists Arabic among the languages. Odoo’s screens run in Arabic, right to left. For both, ask to see your own tax invoice in Arabic and English before you sign.

Stock, production and a second company

Stock and production work in both, as the table shows. Test them on your hardest item, such as a batch-tracked import with freight in dollars and duty in dirhams, or your longest bill of materials. Our page on Odoo manufacturing in the UAE covers the factory side.

A second company is where the designs differ. In Business One, each company is its own database. SAP’s licence guide says a named user’s licence isn’t tied to one company database but is tied to one country version, and SAP offers an intercompany solution for trading between databases. In Odoo, several companies, or branches under one company, share one database, so group reports need no merge; that takes the Custom plan. A free zone entity beside a mainland one is the usual UAE case.

Customisation, integrations and add-ons

Business One changes through user-defined fields, and through the SDK and Service Layer that partners use to build add-ons and integrations. Payroll, e-commerce or deeper production often arrive as add-ons, each with its own vendor, fee and upgrade path. Odoo changes through Studio and Python modules, which need the Custom plan and, for modules, Odoo.sh or your own servers. Outside systems calling Odoo’s API also need Custom; connectors Odoo starts itself, such as payment providers and carriers, work on Standard. With either product, every change is retested at each upgrade, so change the process first and write code last.

What drives the total cost

SAP Business One prices come from partner quotes, and ours follow your scope, so this guide gives no implementation figures. Compare the two on the same scope over the same years, with every line filled in:

  • Licences: SAP’s named users by type, quoted by your partner; Odoo’s published per-user price, which our Odoo licence calculator works out. Ask what each becomes at renewal.
  • Support: SAP’s yearly fee if you buy licences outright; Odoo’s subscription covers its standard apps. Your own setup needs implementer support in both.
  • Database and hosting: SAP HANA or SQL Server plus servers, or your partner’s cloud fee; Odoo Online, Odoo.sh or your own servers.
  • Add-ons: each one’s licence, plus retesting it at every upgrade.
  • Implementation and upgrades: processes, data migration, Arabic documents, the ASP connection, training, and the custom code each upgrade touches.

When SAP Business One fits better

  • Your group runs SAP and wants its subsidiaries on SAP. SAP offers ways to connect Business One subsidiaries to an SAP head office.
  • You run Business One well today, with trained users, add-ons that work and a partner you trust. E-invoicing alone isn’t a reason to move.
  • Your auditors, lenders or a future buyer of the business expect SAP.
  • Your factory depends on a sector add-on proven on Business One, and an Odoo demo can’t do the same job.

In those cases, choose or keep SAP Business One and talk to an SAP partner; we implement Odoo only. Already on Microsoft 365? Read Odoo vs Business Central in the UAE.

Which way does your company lean?

Take this table to your management meeting. One strong SAP row can outweigh several Odoo rows, so weigh them rather than count them.

If this describes you Leans to Why
A parent company on SAP sets your systems SAP Business One Group reporting and rules follow SAP
Two or more companies, such as free zone and mainland, reported together Odoo One database, group reports without a merge
An online store, showrooms or point of sale beside the warehouse Odoo Website, e-commerce and POS in the same subscription
WPS payroll in the same system as the accounts Odoo Payroll app with UAE WPS files
Business One in use, add-ons working, team trained SAP Business One The cost of switching outweighs the gain
You want to check per-user prices before talking to anyone Odoo Prices published by Odoo
Production depends on a sector add-on built for Business One SAP Business One Unless an Odoo demo covers the same job

How to compare them on your own data

  1. Write down your ten hardest scenarios, such as a batch-tracked import, a production order with scrap, a sale between two of your companies and a bilingual tax invoice.
  2. Ask for both demos on those scenarios, with your own items and documents.
  3. Ask each side to run the ASP route: a test invoice, and a rejected one corrected and resent.
  4. Price the same scope over the same years, using the cost lines above.
  5. Ask who supports what after go-live: the product, each add-on and your own configuration.

Moving from SAP Business One to Odoo

Move the data, not the add-ons. What usually moves: the chart of accounts, mapped to Odoo’s UAE chart; business partners with TRNs and emirates; items with batches and serials; warehouses and bins; bills of materials; open invoices and bills; stock at cost; and opening balances. Bring across only the user-defined fields a process still uses. Add-ons aren’t converted: each job they do is rebuilt in Odoo’s configuration first and a module last.

History stays in Business One, read-only, so ask your SAP partner what keeps it readable after you switch. Change systems at the start of a financial year or VAT quarter, rehearse the import twice, and connect Odoo to your ASP inside the same project. Our Tally to Odoo migration guide covers the same cutover method.

Who runs your Odoo rollout

We implement Odoo for UAE companies from Dubai Digital Park, and our Odoo team leads the rollout, from mapping your processes to the first VAT return filed from Odoo. Since 2014 we have delivered software for more than 100 clients. Our core team are native Arabic speakers who work in English, so bilingual documents are checked by people who read both. Quality is built into every step:

  • CTO oversight on the company structure, stock valuation and tax design, the decisions hardest to undo.
  • Independent QA before each release, by someone who didn’t configure the system.
  • A dated plan in FloPlan, the delivery software we built to replace our own planning spreadsheets.

Our Odoo clients stay under NDA. Outside Odoo, we also build custom ERP: Al-Mawared ERP is a web-based ERP for exchange companies across the MENA region. Talk to the team that built it: book a meeting.

Check Odoo against your processes → We ask about your goal, what you use today, your timing and who else should be involved. You leave with clear next steps. We reply by email first and set up a call only if you want one. Asking commits you to nothing, and we sign an NDA first if you ask.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is SAP Business One more expensive than Odoo in the UAE?

The two are priced differently, so compare totals, not list prices. SAP Business One licences are quoted by SAP partners by user type, with a yearly support fee if you buy them outright; Odoo publishes its per-user prices. Put both on the same scope over the same years, with add-ons, hosting, the ASP connection and upgrades included, and the figures become comparable.

Does SAP Business One support UAE VAT and Arabic?

Yes. SAP offers a UAE country version, set up by your SAP partner, and SAP lists Arabic among Business One's interface languages. Before you sign, ask to see your own bilingual tax invoice and a VAT return on the version you would run. It is the same test we suggest for Odoo.

Our parent company runs SAP. Should we choose Business One?

Usually, yes. When the group sets its systems on SAP, Business One keeps your reporting and rules in line with head office, and SAP offers ways to connect Business One subsidiaries to an SAP head office. Choose Odoo only if the group allows it, and agree first how your figures reach head office.

Can Odoo handle batches, serial numbers and landed costs like SAP Business One?

Yes. Odoo tracks lots and serial numbers across several warehouses and locations, and its landed costs spread freight and duty over the goods. Test both products on your hardest item, such as a batch-tracked import with freight in dollars and duty in dirhams, and decide on what you see.

How do we move from SAP Business One to Odoo?

Move the data, not the add-ons: accounts, business partners with TRNs, items with batches and serials, bills of materials, open invoices and bills, stock and opening balances. History stays in SAP Business One, read-only. Switch at the start of a financial year or VAT quarter, rehearse the import twice and connect Odoo to your ASP in the same project.

Which one is ready for UAE e-invoicing in 2027?

Both need a route to an accredited service provider. SAP Middle East & North Africa LLC is on the Ministry of Finance list of providers; Odoo is not, so Odoo connects through a connector to the provider you choose. For either product, ask to see a test invoice, and a rejected one corrected and resent, before go-live.
