When you need to hire an Odoo developer in Dubai, the job ad is the easy part. The route you choose, whether an employee, a freelancer or a contract developer through a provider, decides how soon the customisation, upgrade or e-invoicing work starts, who carries the employment costs, and who still understands your custom modules a year from now.

Which way should you hire an Odoo developer in Dubai?

Quick answer: Employ one when Odoo runs your core operations and you will need someone in-house for years. Use a freelancer for a small, defined fix you can test yourself. Contract a dedicated Odoo developer through a provider when you need full-time capacity for months, without a hiring round, and want HR and replacements handled for you.

What an empty Odoo seat costs you

Odoo work rarely waits quietly. A month-end that still runs through a spreadsheet, a VAT report someone corrects by hand, a custom module that blocks your upgrade, or the connection to an e-invoicing provider that the UAE’s 2027 e-invoicing rules require: each week the seat stays empty is paid for in manual work. And an Odoo developer who already has a job in Dubai usually serves a notice period of 30 to 90 days before joining you.

First, decide which Odoo role you need

“Odoo developer” is often used for three different jobs:

  • An Odoo developer writes and maintains modules in Python, builds screens and reports, and moves custom code to new versions.
  • An Odoo functional consultant maps your processes to Odoo’s standard apps and configures them, mostly without code.
  • An integration specialist connects Odoo to your other systems: a payment gateway, an online store, a bank or your e-invoicing provider.

Many UAE companies need all three at different times, and rarely all full time. If you don’t run Odoo yet, or you’re replacing most of a system, you need a project rather than a hire: see Odoo implementation in the UAE.

Check your hosting before you hire, too. Odoo’s own documentation says that Odoo Online is incompatible with custom modules or modules from the Odoo Apps Store. On Odoo Online, a developer’s custom Python code needs a move to Odoo.sh or your own server first, and that is a decision to make before the hire, not after it.

The skills to test in an Odoo developer

  • Python and the Odoo ORM. Models, computed fields, constraints and access rules, written by extending Odoo’s code rather than editing it, so your next upgrade doesn’t overwrite the change.
  • OWL and QWeb. OWL is the JavaScript framework Odoo’s interface is built with, and QWeb lays out its reports and PDFs. Your invoices, delivery notes and dashboards depend on both.
  • UAE localization. VAT at 5% with reverse charge, the VAT return, Arabic and English tax invoices in the Gulf format and, if you run Odoo Payroll, the UAE rules for the WPS report, leave and end-of-service gratuity.
  • Upgrades. Moving custom modules and their data from one Odoo version to the next. Ask what broke the last time they did it, and how they found out.
  • Your edition. Community and Enterprise differ in apps and hosting, and experience with the one you run saves weeks.

How to hire an Odoo developer, step by step

  1. Write down what you run. Your Odoo version, edition and hosting, the apps you use and every custom module, with where its code lives today.
  2. List the next three months of work. Fixes, customisations, an upgrade, integrations or reports. That list decides whether you need a developer, a functional consultant or both.
  3. Set a practical task. Ask for a small module: a new field on sales orders that flows to the invoice, with an access rule and labels in Arabic and English. Judge how it is built, not only whether it works.
  4. Ask about your localization. Have the candidate explain how they would record a reverse-charge purchase, or what your e-invoicing connection needs from your customer and product data.
  5. Agree where the code lives. Your own repository from the first commit, and every change tested on a copy of your database before it reaches the live one.

How we work on Odoo in the UAE

We implement Odoo for companies in the UAE, and our Odoo work stays in the UAE. We have upgraded clients’ Odoo versions and set up Odoo’s connection to accredited e-invoicing providers; we are not an e-invoicing provider ourselves. Those clients are not named publicly.

The Odoo roles we add for UAE companies are Odoo developers (Python, OWL), Odoo functional consultants and integration specialists. Each person is sourced for your role, you interview every candidate, and HR, payroll and replacements sit with us. For the full set-up, see how staff augmentation in the UAE works with us. For what an employee costs in year one, read our staff augmentation vs in-house cost breakdown.

Our engineers have joined client teams this way before. On ButlerFM, facility management software, they joined ButlerFM’s own team. That was not Odoo work, but it ran the way this article describes: the client’s priorities, in the client’s tools. Talk to the team that worked on it: book a meeting.

One of our pillars carries straight into a contract role. Transparent delivery: clear milestones, reporting and communication, with a monthly report and check-ins with your account manager, so you know what your fee is buying.

Tell us what your Odoo needs next

Since 2014 we have worked with more than 100 clients across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, the USA and Canada, and our Odoo work is for companies in the UAE. Bring your version, your list of custom modules and the work you want done first.

Request Odoo developer profiles → We ask about your goal, what you use today, your timing and who else should be involved. You leave with clear next steps. The call commits you to nothing, and we sign an NDA first if you want one.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to hire an Odoo developer in Dubai?

As an employee, the salary is only part of it: recruitment, visa, insurance, gratuity and a desk come in addition. Through us, you pay one monthly fee per developer, agreed in your proposal. It moves with seniority, your Odoo version and edition, how much functional knowledge the role needs and how many months you need the person.

Can an Odoo developer customise Odoo Online?

Not with custom code. Odoo's documentation says Odoo Online is incompatible with custom modules and with modules from the Odoo Apps Store, so custom Python modules need Odoo.sh or your own server. Settle the hosting first, and the developer you hire works on what you actually run.

Do you add Odoo developers outside the UAE?

No. We implement Odoo and add Odoo developers for companies in the UAE only. In Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, the USA and Canada, our developers join teams working on custom software and apps.

Do we need an Odoo developer or a functional consultant?

A functional consultant if the work is configuration: mapping your processes, setting up apps, taxes and reports. A developer if the work needs code: custom modules, integrations, report layouts or moving custom modules to a new version. List the next three months of work and the answer is usually clear. We source either role.

Who owns the custom modules?

You do. The code sits in your repositories from the first commit, and the code and IP pass to you at the end of the contract term or project, once it is completed and paid. We sign an NDA first if you want one.

How soon can a contract Odoo developer start?

We agree the start date with you once you have chosen from the shortlist. Each developer is sourced for your role, so the date depends on the skills you need, and there is no notice period, visa or relocation on your side.
